Technical Education

Technical Education addresses the need for skilled manpower in both existing and emerging economic sectors to be able to compete globally. It targets an increasingly diverse population and includes both new entrants and in-service members, with wide ranging educational and social characteristics.

The Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science & Technology presently operates 6 Technical Institutions under its aegis along with three campuses operating under the responsibility of Mauritius Polytechnics Limited (PML).

The Technical Education sector is regulated by the Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA) which also develops and maintains the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The MQA is responsible for ensuring the quality of all training (state or the private sector), and also deals with recognition and equivalence of technical qualifications. The MQA registers training institutions, managers, program officers and trainers and approves courses as well as accrediting training institutions. The quality assurance mechanism allows for accreditation of the providers of training, which ensures that courses delivered at different levels are evaluated for high quality education and training.
